Introduction
Welcome to the Fundamentals of Engineering Electromagnetics! In this unit, you will learn to understand and apply electromagnetic principles in the context of electronics and communication engineering. To assist your learning, Lectures are supplemented by Tutorials, Workshops and Laboratories. While Workshops are designed to provide guided problem solving in order to build your confidence, Tutorials encourage your independent practice. This way, your weekly progress can be observed, and actions can be taken to maximize your success in absorbing the unit material. The Midsemester Assessment will provide useful feedback about your progress and identify the areas where you might need more thorough work. We start by revising vector algebra and coordinates transformations to bring your maths to the level of expectation. Some MATLAB programming will be used in this unit to visualise waves and fields. You will learn to write codes that verify your calculations. Laboratory reports will build your report-writing skills and expose you to some practical applications. Remember that your active approach to the unit is key to successful outcomes. Last but not least, your feedback is very valued by the Lecturers! We are wishing you the best learning experience this Semester!

Assessment Breakdown
Recent Unit Changes & Response to Student Feedback
Students are encouraged to provide feedback through student surveys (such as Insight and the annual Student Experience Survey) and interactions with teaching staff. Listed below are some recent changes to the unit as a result of student feedback. 2022 changes: Updated Learning Resources. 2023 changes: Midsemester Assessment and Final Assessment are scheduled as in-person events. Restructured unit material to merge vector algebra and vector calculus in one week, introduced a week dedicated to waves and phasors. Allocated 5 weeks forlaboratories. 2024 changes: (1) added tutorial and workshop questions with answer sheets; (2) provided more questions forthe preparation forthe assessments.
